Hickory Hills

Well I got the bug again, I just had to add the sashing around the center piece... Well it was very easy until I added it to the Center.... Well there is a bubble, I am not sure why or how to get it gone.  I am very upset with this bubble...

Top with the Bubble

The only thing that I can think of is taking the top of the quilt off and re-sewing it on again… But I don’t want to do that unless it will fix the situation.

Well here is what it looks like so far.  I just have to add the 4 ½” border to the quilt then it is done.  I am very happy that this will be done.  I am still not happy with the bubble so I probably will not get it quilted or anything unless I get the bubble fixed…

Well I am hoping that when I take this to my LQS that someone there will be able to help me...I worked so hard, it would be a shame not to finish.

Wedding Day

In July of 2010 My good friends' daughter got engaged.  This is the first wedding in the group so there was a lot of excitement and everything else that goes along with a new beginning.  Their date was set and then the planning really began.  It was set for August 20, 2011 - In our area you can never really rely on the weather so an outside wedding was out just due to the climate (not saying it has not been done before).  The location - Little White Church (not the real name of the church) that has been there for many a moon (1919) and the only church in the area - unless you go into town.  Reception at the local town hall - it has Air Conditioning if the weather is hot...So we have the Bride, Groom, Church, Guests and Reception etc.  All is set for this day.

For me, it was with great anticipation for the big day, as I knew her since she was 6 years old and now she is a beautiful young lady starting a new adventure in her life.  I was so excited to see her get married, our house was jumping with excitement... Ok just me and my Son, hubby was stacking bails and such - much to do before the Snow falls.  The day started with my son constantly asking if it was time, well the wedding started at 2pm.  I finally sent him on his way with Papa for a little bit while I did somethings around the house (Sewing trying to finish Hickory Hills) and got somethings packed in the holiday trailer-sleepover in town.
I could not have made this day go any slower if I would have wished for it myself...But it was finally time to head over to the Church for the BIG day that we all have been waiting for, for just over a year.

Now for the Pictures.

Newly Weds!!

Father and Mother of the Bride - My good Friends
So that was the ceremony... As I watched her come into the Church to make her way to the waiting Groom I could not help myself to get a little teary eyed.  She was so amazingly beautiful (not that she isn't anyways), and she had such an amazing glow about her I was so speechless.
Well when the reception came, and went and only 2 photos - that were not that good so I guess I will have to get those from somewhere else...I am actually kicking myself for not taking more but I guess next wedding (June 2012).

The newly weds are on their way to a little cabin in the back woods for a couple of days just for them.

Our Holiday

Before we left on holidays, me and my hubby and my In-Laws went together to and got a holiday trailer…  We got it on Saturday, picked it up Monday night and left around 11 am on Tuesday.

Giant Windmill on the way to Montana
We are heading to MONTANA – Eureka/Rexford to be exact.  When we arrived at the border we were all a little (hubby and me) on edge–not that we have anything to hide-but we just hear the horror stories.  Passed with very few questions and off.  Hit the campground at 4:30 ish.  Now Hubby and I have not camped in 15 years yes 15 years.  And we got a holiday trailer…
New Trailer - 2005 Nash
Hubby got help with the neighbour to set out the awning, while I organized everything inside.  Then our Fridge would not work well we had all of our friends (boys) over trying to help with that a totally of 6.  Still not sure what it is, thought we would have to got Kalispell to get a new part.  Then our Hot water was not working… Got that fixed.

Day 2 – Everything is working and a go.  Holidays are happy now.  With the exception, I did not bring a quilt as it was 36 degrees so nope forgot those at home and hubby froze the first night…
Fire Captain
Day 3 - Boating with the neighbours whom are really good friends with the family.  It was very fun.  Roy had a blast - Tubing, Driving, Floating in the water and just being on the boat.  They were great with Roy and I.  Then went back to their place for happy hour and a shower - thank goodness they have a house with running water LOVED IT!!  I totally loved being out on the boat and having a nice visit with our friends and just enjoying the water, floating and watching Roy enjoying every minute of it.. Well almost every minute (had a few tantrums that those were resolved).

Day 4 - Kalispell
Hubby could not decide what day we were leaving.  So on Friday I said we need to go to Kalispell as I have never been there and I really wanted to see the country side.  So we went, it was a drive but we are used to this as we live about 45 minutes from Calgary so it was nothing but beauty.  Only made one stop at Murdoch's... This is where Roy cleaned up - 2 shirts, 3 jeans, Semi and Grain Hauler, Semi and Bail Hauler.  Hubby got a belt and I got a sweater...Headed back home.  On our way to Kalispell we say this BEAUTIFUL lake and wow did it look great.  I read the sign and it said Trego, well me might try this next year ans see what it is like camping there.  So now I am searching for our next summer vacation spots.  Later that night we went to another good friend of mine -whom are building a cabin - for a visit and a shower.  As we had an early supper and I wanted Dale to see their place before we left.  It is beautiful there, they have a moose and 2 cougars that live in their area... Don't mind the moose but oh my 2 cougars that is a little scary for me.

Day 5 - Shopping and Lunch
The girls decided that we needed a break from camp.  The 3 of us plus a baby headed into Eureka for some shopping and lunch.  We left the boys with the men and wow did that feel good.  Well lunch took 2 hours so we were thanking god that we did not have the little boys with us.  After lunch it was off to the shops.  I am still kicking myself for not buy this ring that I liked and more Huckle-Berry Coffee...  Well next time I will know to stalk up on this.  As soon as we got home the Boys loaded up and headed for the Rexford Bar...did not stay long as there was a 50th Birthday and Old Cars thing.  Oh well.

Day 6 - Fishing
my hubby was quite a little fisherman this trip.  He went out one day (the day that Roy & I went boating) fishing and got a big Trout.  He was very happy about this, still waiting for the picture of it...then our last day at camp we (hubby, Roy & I and the Longson's) went fishing again.  I am not a fishing person at all.  But I sat and read my book and just enjoyed being out on the water.  We caught 10 Kootenai Salmon, which I think they are going to smoke but not sure...  It was a great day on the boat just enjoying.

HOME- We were packed up and out of the park by 8:40 am - I did not even have my coffee my hubby just wanted to get going home... Our first stop was in Claresholm - this only 1.5 hours from home... had lunch, and then went shopping again.  Roy scored again...

It was a great holiday and it will be one that I will be doing again....

Clean/Crafts and Holidays

So, as previous, I have been a mad woman around this place CLEANING...I cleaned the Kitchen everything, then moved to our room - 5 bags clothes etc to good will - wow did that ever make me feel good.  I even had maternity clothes and my son is 4 should have gotten them gone along time ago but at least they are gone now.

NEXT stop - Sewing/Computer/Scrapbook/Spare Room - What a disaster this place was - I had so much junk and such from all my projects.  Sewing has the most, here I kept going to buy more fabric because I did not have a good STASH - well it is amazing what you find when you clean.  Now I just need shelves put up so that I can see what they are etc.  My stuff is crazy, I need to have a sale of paper stock and such but I am such a pack rat that I am scared that if I get rid of it I will have to go and re-purchase and I really don't want to do that.  EVEN though I now do digital and no longer do the traditional, so why not...  Maybe next time I clean I will get rid of the stock...I just have to now paint the room with the paint that I already have purchased so that will be next weeks project.  My computer area is still a little bit of a mess but that will be done eventually.

Now, for the fun and good news - I am officially going on holidays... My hubby finished bailing hay on Wednesday last week, and I said as soon as he was done we are gone...Well I am still here waiting to go on holidays...So once he was done I turned to my trusty computer to find a place to go.  We were deciding between Eureka Montana (all the neighbors are going there) or Silverwood Theme Park (Coeur d'Alene).  So we kind-of decided to go to Montana, so I started looking for cabins to rent as we do not have a holiday trailer.  Then my hubby's brother said that we could borrow his - so the Mad Woman came out in me again - as this was Friday that we decided to borrow the trailer... I made my list and started on that, then I went on to Kijiji to find a holiday trailer as my hubby really did not want to borrow, and I have been wanting a holiday trailer forever but started looking for the last 4 years off and on.  But this was different and I just wanted one so bad.  But then Hubby really did not want one and thought that we should borrow the trailer just to test the waters and see how it goes.  The last time that we went camping it was 15 years ago - So this is a big step for us.  So I found some trailers and I asked my MIL to come with me to look as I really don't know what to ask etc.  Then on Friday night I told her that we were not going as Dale just does not want one and the we will start to look in February...  Saturday morning 8:15 am I get a call from my MIL saying that my FIL was on Kijiji and found a trailer that he wants to look at so they wanted me to come along with them.  It was in Calgary and the guy had an appointment at 10:15 so we had to be there by 9:15 at the latest and that there was another viewing at 6 - So we go there and looked and looked, they asked the questions, I looked at the storage and all that jazz.  We left and came home, I spoke with my hubby about it and such, then I told him to talk to his dad, as he knew more about the trailer then I did.  My FIL was so darn excited about as it is a great little unit for dry camping and for when we go to Rocky.  Well half hour later Hubby finally said yes to the holiday trailer - I am doing the Happy DANCE!!!  So a different Mad Woman has come out as we are not borrowing a trailer that has everything in it but our clothes - we have a trailer now that has NOTHING in it... So off to Wally World (wal-mart) we go, 2 hours later we have the essentials minus the pots and pans...Now starts the stacking check lists and ensuring that I have everything to load into the trailer.  And on top of it all, we were suppose to leave today, but now my Hubby is not leaving until we have the trailer and it is re-cleaned and packed for the trip.  His words "I just bought a trailer, I am not borrowing one" which is a good point... So now my kitchen table is covered with the things that you need to have in a trailer before you can just put the clothes in.  Oh we don't have the trailer yet, we are to pick it up tonight   So I will be cleaning it tonight and packing the trailer so that we can pull out after my doctors appointment tomorrow...   I don't have any pictures yet, but as soon as I get it and take some I will post and of course our holiday where it is currently 36 celuse- not sure what that is in the USA But that is really hot here for us Albertans.

Hickory Hills

I have found my mojo in the quilting world again...

So after doing my Coxcomb (see blog)- I decided that it is time to get my Hickory Hills done... I started this last year, I think it was October but not sure.  When I got the first month I did not do what I was suppose to use it for... I started to do the Jo Morton courthouse steps that was in a Quilting Magazine that I got...Then I started looking at the book and the pattern and decided OH I MUST DO THIS!!  By the time that I wanted to do this I had all the fabric with the exception of Month 1.  So I started cutting and piecing the shoofly's - the pattern says to press seems open so I did, wow does that take time...

I got a lot of the them done, (I think there is 171 shoofly's total for this quilt) but I was short imagine that... Of to my LQS to get month one...Well I got them all built - Positives and Negatives is the pattern for this - I have not clue how to do this but I managed to work my way through this.  Before I stop the last time I had them all is the strips that they were suppose to be in - or so I thought...

Yesterday I started doing the corner - 9 patch of shoofly's and the sides - 7 row of 3 - done for the day.  Today I started working on the center piece - Well I got it all pressed - THANK YOU FOR THE BEST PRESS I don't think that I will be able to live with out this.  Just after supper I thought ok 2 more rows and I am done the center YES - well NO I was not...

I look at the blocks and how they were, well for some reason it was not looking right... Well it took me ripping out 2 rows and 3 blocks to fix the error...  I guess that is what you get for trusting yourself for what you did 6 months ago or longer...

Any ways it is done, and now I have to figure out how to trim this... it is suppose to be 26 3/4 x 26 3/4 - center and 11 3/4 x 11 3/4 for the 9 patch (which it is not so I have to figure that out) and the sides are to be 11 3/4 x 26 3/4 well that will have to be adjusted as well...  I am not sure where I am going to go to get help with this as my pressing and 1/4 are not always the best that they can be, and my mat is not long enough it is only 24 so I have to go somewhere that has a big mat.  Hum, my LQS I think that they should be able to help me.

Here is what it looks like so far, I will post the finished top once I get that done - hope fully soon, really wanted it for show and tell at Club in 2 weeks.  Goal to have top done in 2 weeks.

Roy Did It!

I am one very proud momma… My little man did it at 4 years he got himself all dressed to ride a sheep!

Just before going into the Arena
There was a call to me before he the ride of him telling me that he did not want to ride the sheep and that he was scared.  I asked why he was scared and he just told me that he was scared.  But my hubby and a few others got him pumped up and such and he got out there and rode for a second or two but he still did…

Later my hubby told me that he was scared of clowns and he wanted his daddy to get him off the sheep…So he did or tried.  My hubby also told him that he can go ride the mechanical bull after his sheep ride (he did this last year and loved it).

Now when you ask him are you going to do it again – YES I am.  He is so very proud and excited about it.

In Arena - Just about to Ride - Roy and Daddy
So I have a SONY Camcorder… Well it is not working at all, I was on the e-support for abut 2 hours trying to figure out how to get my videos that I have taken onto my computer…After all that I went to where I have all my computer programs etc. and found the discs that came with the camcorder... Well by 7pm last night I still could not get this on my computer.  So now I have to finalize the DVD and put it into my computer and do it that way, which is not great at all.
Yesterday - was a total write off - I should have been sick or something...I got up and ready, went to Calgary (45 minutes away) to the Sony store to get all I need to be able to this on my computer so that I can share this with you all...  Got home and then spent the rest of the day trying to edit and publish and all that stuff.  By 8pm I had it done and ready for adding to this.

I have also been trying to edit my video that took of Roy riding in Windows Live Movie Maker - what a joke that is...I went on line and found VideoPad Movie Maker (thank you) had the video edited in about 5 minutes...

Before you watch ***warned this is amaturer video taking and not the greatest... I am going to start practicing so it won't be so shaky for next year.

***with it being haying season, I would like to ask all the farmers/ranchers to take your time, shut your machinery off before doing anything to the baler (I know you have a million things on your mind), Holidays/Cows and whatever else is on your mind will still be there when you are done.  Just PLEASE make it home each and every night to the people who you love and love you***

As always,
Shauna
